Hi Prof. Freeman!

Wow.. I was thinking of you while watching Olbermann, since you're one of the first people to interest me in the healthcare crisis that the nation is facing today. Just wanted to reach out to you, and I am thrilled to come across your blog! Please feel free to email me back, it would be nice to hear from one of my favorite teachers :)

That article was garbage. For one thing, it's disingenuous for her and the AARP magazine to steep all that up as "Myth vs. Fact". A myth is something that is demonstrably false. A fact is something that is demonstrably true.

Not a single one of her "myths" is actually a myth. And not a single one of her refutations of those myths was actually a fact. Actually, there were sixteen opinions there. Eight that were opinions opposed to the sort of reform being discussed -- and eight that were in support of it.

That was an advocacy piece. And to say that it was presenting myths and facts is just irresponsible.

Each of them, of course, are questions worth discussing. And there are sound cases to be made on either side. But nothing gets my goat quicker than somebody presenting opinion as fact.

Thank you for your comments. I have provided a live <a href="http://leroyjenkins.com/" rel="nofollow">hyperlink to Rev. Jenkins' site</a>. I looked at the site. Rev. Jenkins appears to be an born-again preacher and faith healer. There is a video of him healing. With pink suite and dyed hair, you can see him healing folks who purportedly have been ill for a number of years.

Tabetha, since you have responded to a posting regarding the U.S. signing on to the U.N.'s decriminalization of homosexuality with a link directly to a conservative faith healer, I am assuming that you believe that homosexuality is at least a sickness and at most a sinful condition punishable by hellfire and damnation. While I appreciate you post, I categorically reject that understanding of sexual orientation. Personally, I find it frightening, and from my bio (<a href="http://501cweb.wordpress.com/about-the-author/" rel="nofollow">About the Author</a> page), I believe know where you are coming from. But, that's my opinion. Would anyone else like to comment?
