Bill Freeman has worked in the nonprofit and cause-related arena for over 25 years. From social services and higher education to healthcare and grassroots activism, he has been a catalyst in developing and implementing programs that effectively respond to pressing social challenges. He has successfully managed four non-profit distress workouts, multi-million dollar budgets, and large and small staffs.

He is a highly successful fundraiser having secured over $100-million from public and private sources.  Following his nonprofit career, Bill launched a consulting practice to assist nonprofits and associations use web-related technology to their strategic advantage. In addition, he worked as a nonprofit subject matter expert for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration of Children and Families and with a myriad of third sector groups.  He launched a blog, 501cWeb.org in October 2006 to provide a diet of political commentary and management tools for nonprofits, cause-related organizations, and those who know that the best of what can be is yet to come.

Bill has an MA in Theology (ABD) from St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore, MD, and an MBA (Finance) from Southeastern University in Washington, DC. He holds a doctorate in business administration with a concentration in health services administration from the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His doctoral dissertation investigated the relationship between the moral maturity of managers and organization performance.

He is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. He is certified in change management and the Balanced Scorecard methodology. In additional, he earned a certification in appreciative inquiry. He has served as a national examiner with the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Assurance Program (2005-2008).

At the present time, he is managing partner of the Institute for Healthcare Excellence, an organization dedicated to increasing the number and effectiveness of healthcare workers in the U.S.   Currently, he is an adjunct faculty member at his alma matre, Nova Southeastern University, teaching MBA students. He also teaches business ethics to MBA students at Argosy University.

Previously, he was a faculty member at the University of Northern Virginia where he launched the University’s fledgling MBA in Healthcare Administration. He has been an adjunct professor at George Mason University teaching students pursuing master degrees in public and nonprofit administration. As an adjunct professor at The George Washington University, Washington, DC,  he has taught Business and Goverment Relations: Ethics & Stakeholder Management to undergrads. 

Bill lives with Patrick McMahon, his partner of 21 years, in Arlington, Virgina. In additon, their family includes two wonderful rescue dogs: Emily an eight year-old mix lab, and Toby a two-year old plot hound-lab mix. He considers himself tremendously blessed.
